14-Cycle Notes - September 2nd, 2008
If you wanna kiss the sky, you'd better learn how to kneel.
When speaking to or about someone, a Japanese person will almost always refer to them by their last name and an honorific. The most common honorific by far is "san," as in "Nakamura-san." Most Japanese lessons will tell you that "san" is equivalent to the English Mr./Mrs./Miss, but I've never been satisfied with that because it doesn't feel quite like the ways I've seen "san" used in Japanese. Today I finally learned a word that solidifies that impression for me. When addressing all persons present, as in "Everyone please listen," the Japanese expression for "everyone" is "mina-san."
Today I started the 100 Pushup Challenge. I'll let you know how it goes.
